In the Tanay region, there are four breathtaking waterfalls (Danarak Falls, Batlag Falls, Palo Alto Falls and Kinabuan Falls) which are all at the mountainside of Sierra Madre Mountain Range the most famous of them is Daranak Falls located in Barangay Tandang Kutyo, Tanay.
Daranak Falls is a 14-meter high waterfall directly from the fresh water supply of the mountain. But before we introduce the beauty of Daranak Falls let’s understand first what’s the meaning behind the word “Daranak”?
There are currently two different story / folklore which could explain the name of Daranak Falls.
Theory 1: The word “Daranak” came from the word dadanak in Tagalog phrase, Dadanak ang Dugo. Early in the history, an ethnic residence from Tanay debated who will own the falls.
Theory 2: Another origin says that it may also came from the word “Danak” (flow) which is shortened from the word “Dumaranak”. The latter word was used to describe the flowing water of the falls.
Tanay became an adventure destination and it became known for its wonderful waterfall which is the Daranak Falls. Located at the foot of the Sierra Madre Mountain range. It was popular for its refreshing waterfall with a deep basin for swimming. Which tend to capture all the fresh water from the waterfall.

The entrance fee for Danarak Falls is PHP 50 per person. Children, adults and seniors all pay the same amount. All infants and young children below 3 feet of height are free of charge.
Besides entrance fees you have to consider other fees. Many might want to rent a picnic shed or a picnic table. A picnic shed cost P 300 which is suitable for 10 to 15 persons and for picnic table is P 200 and can accommodate 8 to 10 people.
Please note that during the busy period these picnic tables and picnic sheds are quickly rented out. Also consider the rules of no alcohol beverage and no disposable plastic cups. This is to ensure that the area stays clean.
Since this is one of Tanay’s most important tourist spot and a natural beauty their Tourism Department has strict rules to preserve the area. Rules in Daranak Falls are such as alcoholic beverages are not allowed.
Respect of nature by not playing any kind of loud music that would scare animals in the area. And finally the do not leave a trace policy. Customers and tourists can bring their own food as long they bring keep everything clean afterwards and bring all the plastic with them to dispose at a proper place. This is to maintain the quality of nature.
